COVID-19 Emergency

The COVID-19 is spreading very fast and the number of patients in my home country Iran, the USA, and all over the world is increasing hourly. One of the biggest problems in facing with the COVID-19 is providing enough number of the ventilator for demanding patients. I have designed a very cheap automatic ventilator and oxygen source that can be made with less than $200. The beauty of my design is that it is very simple and cheap so anyone in any part of the world can make it. I could have designed it very complicated but I think now we need the simplest device that can works.

The device has two main parts one of them is the mechanical ventilator and the other one is the oxygen source. For the oxygen source the device use tap water and by electrolysis of water, it produces oxygen. So for running the ventilator we just need tap water (even sea water works better) and electricity and the outcome is a ventilator with oxygen that can save the lives of patients.

I want to make Do It Yourself (DIY) package freely available online with all necessary information and designs and even the length and dimensions in such a way that any individual even in a village in Africa could possibly make it. I don't want to say that my device is a miracle, but I hope that in an emergency and choosing between death and a little bit of chance of living it will be helpful.

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment.  Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness.(https://www.who.int/health-topics/coronavirus#tab=tab_1)

Manual ventilators

•It is not possible to do it for a long time

•Make the nurses tired

•It is not feasible to do it with a constant rate

CorVent

My wife and I designed a very cheap ventilator in case of emergency due to COVID-19 health crises.

Easy assembly

Very Cheap design

The simplicity and cheapness of the CorVent 01 are the main advantages of this design. The final goal of this project is to have a simple and doable design that anyone in any part of the world can easily make it. Even without a source of oxygen, the CorVent can potentially in an emergency situation save lives. Another project that I think will work is making the oxygen source from electrolysis of water that I call it CorOx. The CorOx is also designed in a very simple, cheap, and doable way.

Final Outcome

Building CorVent 1.0

Finally, we made CorVent 1.0 in our living room! The main advantages of the CorVent 1.0 are that it is designed in very simple and cheap that can be made without any 3D printer, milling machine, or lathe machine. We just used a hand saw, drill and regular tools.

Here are some photos of the building procedure:

WARNING/DISCLAIMER:

The main goal of this project is to have a very simple and cheap ventilator in case of choosing between death and low chance of living. It is designed in such a way that anyone in any part of the world can easily make it. Please do not use arbitrary information you found online. I am not a medical expert, just a random person. This project attempts to make a cheap and simple ventilator to help with breathing during acute respiratory distress. I will release all designs and sources of information available freely online for everyone who wants to make the device. Hopefully, it will solve a major issue during the COVID-19 pandemic. Please illuminate this way by providing feedback.

Comments

We are very very open to critics and comments. Please leave a comment and help us to design a better device. I am a graduate student in the field of optical science and engineering and my wife is a graduate student in biology so we are not an expert in medical engineering. We need your feedback to improve our design. We just started the project and your feedback and help will pave the way to finish it. The final goal is to have a simple, cheap, and lifesaver ventilator for everyone who needs it.

Thanks
